Polaron-Type Magnetic Conjugated Polymer with Liquid Crystallinity

We synthesized poly(para- and meta-phenylenevinylene) derivative with liquid crystalline group. The
polymeris composed of p-phenylenevinylene as a spin generating unit and m-
phenyleneas a ferromagnetic spin coupling unit. The
polymershowed nematic LC phase. The
polymerwas doped by iodine to generate the
polaron, after the
polymerwas
cooled downthrough the LC phase. ESR measurements showed that the spin concentration increased by means of external magnetic force alignment of the
polymer.
