The Osteology of WLH 1, 2 and 3

2018
Two of the salient members of the collection (WLH 1, 3) and the first two individuals to be discovered in the Willandra are described and their images fully documented. That has not been undertaken before in the international literature. Their skeletal morphology and possible origins are discussed in terms of what we now known about the modern human story in Australia and the placement of these individuals in the story of the first people. The scientific value of the remains is emphasised as an example of some of the people that first arrived here. The cultural and biological aspects of these people are noted from both their kind of burial and the pathological evidence that has been derived from close examination of their skeletons. The chapter ends with a brief discussion of what we might expect the lifestyle of these people as well as those living elsewhere to have been like.
