The invention relates to a monitoring device (112) for a battery cell having a first battery contact (104) and a second battery contact (106), a galvanic cell (114) having a first terminal (131) and a second terminal (132), a first having electrical line (141) for connecting the first battery contact to the first terminal, a second electrical lead (142) for connecting the second battery contact with the second terminal, and a protective device (110) for confining current flow through the first conduit. The monitoring device has a first contact (121) for connecting the monitoring device with the first battery contact (104), a second contact (122) for connecting the monitoring device to the first terminal (131), a third contact (123) for connecting the monitoring device with the second connecting line (142) and detecting means (252) for detecting at least one parameter of the battery cell.
