Introduction and objective: The maintenance of treatment for diabetic patients is hard to accept, because of the need to discipline and incorporation of habits and life. The study aimed to analyze the adherence to treatment nutrition and habits of diabetic patients treated in an outpatient clinic of nutrition. Materials and Methods: observational study based on the analysis of secondary data collected in 2018. The nutrition treatment adherence was evaluated through the comparison of anthropometric measurements, food habits and health, between the first and last consultation, related to the intervention time and the number of consultations in the period. The analyzes were performed using the statistical package STATA® 11.1, with a significance level of 5%. Results and Discussion: Most of the sample were female (51%), aged 19 to 64 years, presents excess weight or obesity, abdominal obesity, and risk of developing metabolic complications. There was significant improvement in most of the anthropometric data, being that 60.71% of patients lost weight. Adherence to treatment was partial, because although the food habits have improved between consultations, the majority was not significant. In relation to physical activity, there was a significant reduction of sedentary patients. Studies with diabetic patients show low adherence to the nutritional treatment. Conclusion: It is necessary to reassess the approaches and strategies involved in patient adherence as the improvement of the quality of nutrition and lifestyle habits to have greater adherence to treatment.
