Telecare during travel and for special situations

2020
Abstract During travel the cost of having constant availability of the doctor is challenging or at least more expensive than actual transfer in times of need. This chapter discusses special situations in healthcare provision that is needed by persons who are travelling and a health emergency that occurs during the same, which could be by air, sea, or as part of an expedition. Another section discusses how information technology and telemedicine is promoting people to travel for health reasons, which has become a business opportunity for health providers in some countries where cost of healthcare delivery is low. A subsection is dedicated to how telehealth systems can expedite outside help and quicker return to normalcy after disasters.
