A Novel Method for Passive Shaped Beam Synthesis

We present a novel method for passive shaped beam synthesis. This method utilizes the pattern reconfigurable Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) for passive shaped beam synthesis. Compared with the conventional shaped beam synthesis of the base station antenna, it saves the base station power by avoiding the use of active element to shape the patterns with deep nulls and peaks for interference and users respectively. The low-cost artificial fish swarm algorithm (AFSA) is utilized for synthesizing shaped beams to match the desired user patterns. Performance evaluation of the prototyped antenna array is verified to cover the desired users and avoid the interference.
