Syphilis, from its poetic past to the modern resurgence

Syphilis, an age-old disease, at risk of becoming the 'forgotten' disease in the developed world, is now seeing a reported rise in its incidence in United States. Largely attributed to changing social and behavioural factors, especially among young men who have sex with men (MSM), there has also been an increase among premenopausal women, coinciding with a concerning rise of congenital cases (Schmidt R, Infect Dis (Auckl). 2019;12).
