Measurement of the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the pp and pd small-angle scattering amplitudes in the energy range 50--400 GeV

1981
Elastic pp and pd scattering with the minimal value of the momentum transfer squared 0.0005 (GeV/c)/sup 2/ has been studied in the energy range 50--400 GeV. In the experiment the technique has been used which is based on measurements of energies and angles of the recoil particles produced in collisions of the internal beam of accelerated protons with the target nuclei. The target was supersonic hydrogen- and deuterium-gas jet. Analysis of differential cross sections allowed us to obtain the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the elastic pp and pd scattering amplitudes (rho/sub p/p and rho/sub p/d). By means of the Glauber approximation the values of rho/sub p/n for the elastic pn scattering have been evaluated.
