Conference and Forum Establish New Horizons for Design Education in the Yangtze River Region

On June 15th, the Inaugural Conference of the Alliance of Architectural Design Institutions of Yangtze River Delta Universities was held at the School of Design Building at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This was followed that day and at the same venue by the first forum on "Examining Challenges and the Future of Architectural Education in Universities."

​Thirty-four member universities of the alliance attended the event. Among others, these included representatives from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Southeast University, Shanghai Exploration and Design Trade Association, Zhejiang Province Exploration and Design Trade Association, Anhui Province Engineering Exploration and the Design Trade Association. Other representatives from media and industry also attended.

The establishment of the Alliance of Architectural Design Institutions of Yangtze River Delta Universities marks a new stage in the architectural design industry, and for education in the Yangtze River Delta region. The alliance will be committed to deepening exchange and cooperation, continuously expanding the field of cooperation, and upgrading the level of cooperation, in order to promote the deep integration of architectural design education and practice in the Yangtze River Delta region. It aims to inject new vitality and momentum into the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta region.

The first "Challenges and Future of Architecture Education in Colleges and Universities" forum featured discussion on the challenges, paths for reform, and future development trends of architectural education. It resulted in consensus that institutions of higher education must keep pace with the times, not only deepen the teaching of professional knowledge, but also focus on the cultivation of students' innovative thinking and practical ability. They emphasized that under the guidance of the integrated development strategy of Yangtze River Delta, universities and research institutes in the region should further strengthen cooperation and exchange, jointly promote scientific research projects and talent cultivation, and drive the continuous development of architectural design education with innovation.
