10-odd SJTU Alumni Selected in the List of Forbes 2020 Top 100 Chinese Venture Capitalists

Forbes China recently released the list of top 100 Chinese venture capitalists for the year 2020. Over 10 alumni of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) made it onto the list, including Hua Ping, Xue Cunhe, Guo Yihong, Shen Nanpeng, Mao Chengyu, Huang Mingming, Han Yan, Liu Qin, Zhang Fei, Cai Mingpo and Gao Xiang.Xue Cunhe: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SJTU School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering in 1982, President and CEO of SoftBank China, co-founder of UTStarcom and UTStarcom. Inc (NASDAQ, UTSI), Director and Senior Vice President of UTStarcom. Inc, previously served as the engineer of the US company DGM&S and Vice President of StarCom Network Systems. Inc.

 

 

 

Hua Ping: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SJTU School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering in 1982, Managing Partner of SoftBank China, previously served as the management consultant for McKinsey and R&D and marketing manager for Siemens (USA), director of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Federation of the SJTU Alumni Association.

 

Xue Cunhe: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SJTU School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering in 1982, President and CEO of SoftBank China, co-founder of UTStarcom and UTStarcom. Inc (NASDAQ, UTSI), Director and Senior Vice President of UTStarcom. Inc, previously served as the engineer of the US company DGM&S and Vice President of StarCom Network Systems. Inc.

 

Guo Yihong: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1985 and a master’s degree in 1988 from SJTU School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, General Partner of IDG Capital, previously worked for Soros Fund Management and Salomon Brothers and involved in a hedge fund project worth USD 3 billion, with a solid track record of successful technology project investment.

 

Shen Nanpeng: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SJTU School of Mathematical Sciences in 1988, Global Executive Partner of Sequoia Capital, founder of Ctrip and Home Inn, member of SJTU Board of Trustees, member of the Fifth Council of SJTU Education Development Foundation, Chairman of SJTU Fund of Funds Management Committee, and Chairman of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Federation of the SJTU Alumni Association.

 

Mao Chengyu: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SJTU Antai College of Economics & Management in 1993, founding partner of Yunqi Partners, worked in China’s venture capital industry for over 20 years, with the investment philosophy of technology enabling industrial upgrading, long focused on early and medium term investment opportunities in industrial Internet, fintech and business service, invested in nearly 100 outstanding Chinese startups, with extensive experience in their capital operations and business analysis.

Huang Mingming: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SJTU School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering in 1994, founding partner of Future Capital, one of the earliest Chinese Internet entrepreneurs, with over 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry, involved in the founding and management of a number of Internet companies such as 265.com, Zcom, Flashget and Kanbox.

 

Han Yan: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SJTU School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering in 1999, founding partner of Lightspeed China Partners, invested in a range of businesses such as Full Truck Alliance, FinVolution, Sweetome, Fangdd, Tencent Trusted Doctors, XPeng Motors, SUNMI Technology and Spiritual Wealth Club.

 

Liu Qin: Admitted to China Europe International Business School in 1997, founding partner of 5Y Capital, invested in media, games and entertainment and consumer services, with a good track record in computer science and web development.

 

Zhang Fei: Admitted to China Europe International Business School in 1998, partner of 5Y Capital, invested in communication, Internet and media.

 

Cai Mingpo: Admitted to China Europe International Business School in 2004, Chairman of Cathay Capital, previously served as the partner of Cai&Cogos and the Chief Representative of the French company Groupe SEB in China.

 

Gao Xiang: Admitted to China Europe International Business School in 2009, founding partner of Gaorong Capital.
