Biography
Dr. Atul Sagade received his Ph.D. in Energy Engineering from Central University of Jharkhand, India and spent two years as post-doctoral fellow at Solar Energy Research Center (SERC), a center of excellence at University of Chile (QS Rank 2025: 139). Presently, he is working as a professor in the mechanical engineering department of the University of Tarapacá, Chile, and associated as visiting professor/scientist with several internationally reputed universities in Europe and South America. Dr. Sagade has experience of more than eighteen (18) years in teaching, research, entrepreneurial and administrative positions at Engineering Polytechnics and graduation institutions in India and abroad including managerial positions such as Principal/Director of the engineering polytechnic institute. His research interest focuses on the renewables for decentralized and domestic applications, Solar and bio-energy based product developments, and establishing test standards for their standardization.
Abstract
Decentralized energy solutions (DES) have undeniably played a vital role in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the last decade. Many SDGs, such as SDG 13, 15, and 17, can be fulfilled with improved propagation DES and the fundamental SDG 7, focusing on clean and modern energy access for all. Out of different DES, solar thermal technologies offer a wide range of energy blends and immense potential for incorporation into decentralized energy solutions, which need low to intermediate temperature ranges of 120–250 °C for cooking, fluid heating, and drying. Therefore, developing novel products based on solar thermal collectors (STCs) and bio-energy is one of the prime concerns for enhancing clean energy access in the decentralized energy sector and reducing energy poverty.
