Research Field
Biocatalysis, biotransformation, and microbial fermentation are usually limited by the low substrate solubility, the substrate/product inhibition, and the further product degradation. Our interesting is integration of bio-reaction into its downstream extractive process to solve the above problems. Based on a novel medium (cloud point system) developed in our lab, successful examples are carried out, including microbial transformation of water-insoluble of cholesterol to produce intermediate androst-1, 4-diene-3, 17-dione (ADD) of steroid medicine, microbial transformation of toxic benzaldehyde into Chinese traditional medicine L-phenylacetylcarbinol (L-PAC), and extractive fermentation of intracellular Monascus pigments (Chinese traditional colorant and folk medicine) etc.
