In 2023, the Caring for the Next Generation Work Commission of the Ministry of Education, with the theme of "Talking about the 20th National Congress of the CPC with the Old and Young, Forging ahead on a New Journey", launched the "Understanding China" campaign in universities nationwide. It received 591 essays, 332 micro-videos and 49 stage plays recommended by universities directly under the provincial governments and the Ministry. After expert review, 60 of the best essays and 30 of the best micro-videos were selected for the 2023 "Understanding China" excellent works display. The micro-videos "50 Years of Hard Work, a Lifetime of Ping Pong" and "60 Years of Dedication, Full-heartedly Serving the Country" produced by the School of Media and Communication of Shanghai Jiao Tong University jointly with the Department of Physical Education and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering were among the selected micro-videos. It was aired on February 6 and February 8 on China Education Television 1 (CETV1) from 20:45 to 21:10. It was simultaneously pushed on the WeChat public account of the Ministry of Education's Caring for the Next Generation Work Commission and the online all-media platform of Chinese university students.

The micro-video "50 Years of Hard Work, a Lifetime of Ping Pong " told the story of Sun Qilin, a professor at the physical education department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It took six months to complete the production, telling the story of Professor Sun Qilin, a model and pioneer of the combination of sports and education, who dedicated himself to developing national sports. His commitment to making China a strong Sports Country has inspired the students in the new era to strive.

The micro-video "60 Years of Dedication, Full-heartedly Serving the Country " takes Yan Deyue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as the shooting subject, which took 6 months to complete. It tells the story of Academician Yan Deyue's devotion to the country through decades of basic scientific research and his courage to carry the mission of scientific and technological innovation.

 "Understanding China" is a brand education activity launched by the Caring for the Next Generation Work Commission of the Ministry of Education. The School of Media and Communication of Shanghai Jiao Tong University has participated in this event for six consecutive years, and five of its works won the best micro video and best Essay awards.
