Biography
Qinghua Xu was born in Shanghai in 1963. He received his B.A. from China Academy of Art in 1991 and his Master from the Calligraphy Graduate Program of China Academy of Art in 2004. He serves as an Associate Researcher at Chinese National Academy of Arts, the President of Shanghai Youth Calligraphers Association, a member of China Calligraphers Association, a member of Xiling Society of Seal Arts, and a review board member of Shanghai Calligraphers Association.
Honors
The First Class Prize in The First Shanghai Youth Art Festival Calligraphy and Seal Cutting Exhibition; The First Class Prize in “Xuancheng Cup” National Calligraphy Competition; Xie Zhiliu Calligraphy Art Award; the honor of The Second National Excellent Artists in both Performing Skills and Moral Integrity.
Research Projects and Publications
Since 1985, his works have been exhibited in International Calligraphy Exhibition, the 3rd to 6th National Calligraphy Exhibitions, the 2nd to 7th Youth Calligraphy and Seal Cutting Exhibitions, every National Sea Cutting Exhibition, every International Seal Cutting Invitation Exhibition, 94 Modern Calligraphy Exploration Exhibition, 96 International Modern Calligraphy Exhibition, The First International Cursive-Style Calligraphy Art Exhibition, 2005 Hangzhou International Modern Calligraphy Art Exhibition, Taipei International Modern Calligraphy Exhibition, and etc. Moreover, his works have won him more than 10 important awards and been featured in more than 10 newspapers. In 1986, he was involved in the production of the film Seal Cutting Art as the art director. In 1994 and 2005, he was twice invited to give lectures and hold his solo exhibition in Singapore.
Regarding publications, he has a number of articles, art commentaries and books published. Main publications include Tradition, Modern, and Inheritance – Selected Works of Xu Qinghua, College Art Design Teaching Materials, Work Collection of Famous Contemporary Seal Cutting Experts – Xu Qinghua Volume, Twelve Chinese Zodiac Seals, Fine Arts Appreciation, and etc.
